Novel Review: The Asset by Shane Kuhn

I'm back with a new post. In this new post, I would like to share with you my review of a novel I just finished reading last weekend. The novel is titled The Asset, and it was written by Shane Kuhn. The Asset is a spy thriller novel. I bought this novel during the Big Bad Wolf Sale last year. The Asset was published in 2016. Now, let's begin with the review......

Shane Kuhn is a writer, director, and producer. He has 20 years of experience working in films, documentaries, and advertising. He is a co-founder and executive board member of the Slamdance Film Festival, and a member of the Writer's Guild of America. Kuhn lives in Colorado and works as a Vice President of Creative Services for a San Francisco based media and special events organization. Besides The Asset, Kuhn's novels include Hostile Takeover, The Intern's Handbook, and Casual Friday.

A Brief Summary on The Asset

The story is based on the September 11 tragedy that hit the United States of America in 2001. The tragedy brings a huge impact on the world. Four commercial airlines were hijacked by 19 Al-Qaeda terrorists. The four commercial airlines hit the World Trade Center (WTC) twin towers. The attack killed 2997 people, 25,000 were injured. The attack also caused at least $10 billion in infrastructure and property damage.

In The Asset, the protagonist is Kennedy. On the 11th of September 2001, Kennedy's younger sister, Belle was on one of the planes that hit the north tower of  WTC. Belle died on the incident. Belle's death gives trauma to Kennedy. Kennedy's life was never the same.

Since then, Kennedy has dedicated his life to airline security. He became very knowledgable about planes. Kennedy knows more about planes that the airport authority. His knowledge of planes was scouted by the CIA. Later, Kennedy was recruited by the CIA. He then became an asset to the intelligence agency. 

My Opinion and Rating For The Asset

Overall, I think The Asset is an interesting novel to read especially if you are into the spy thriller genre. The plot of this story is very interesting and exciting. It makes you won't stop reading until the end. This story is full of intelligence, espionage, and suspense elements. Kuhn's style of writing also makes the storyline exciting. 

Reading The Asset also gives me knowledge about planes and airports. As a person who loves traveling, I always see the airport as a fun and happy place. An airport is a place where everyone is excited and happy to embark on a new adventure and return from their adventure with sweet memories. But after I read this novel, I realized that an airport is also a scary place. As a traveler, we don't know what the airport security and authorities are doing. Most of their works are covert.

Reading The Asset also helps me to revise my knowledge about the September 11 tragedy. I was only 15 years old during the tragedy. I was always curious about the September 11 tragedy. I remember that time I watched CNN news every day to follow the updates. Until now, the September 11 tragedy is still a mystery. Most people believe that the attack was a conspiracy. According to the American government, Osama bin Laden was the mastermind of the attack and the main culprit.

I rate The Asset 9/10. However, I'm not going to recommend this novel to all bookworms. I only recommend this novel to those who are into the spy thriller genre. Not all people are into this kind of genre.
