For the bloggers interview June & July episode, I interviewed a Filipino blogger named Izzy Matias. Guys, Izzy is the blogger behind Izzy Matias blog and the founder of The Content Chest community. Izzy is one of the creative bloggers that I admire now. She's a creative genius. And the Content Chest is a perfect community for all K-pop lovers and content creators to join. Members can also learn creative marketing strategies from joining the community.

THE INTERVIEW

1. Tell me about yourself and your blog.

I'm Izzy, a multi-passionate creator who shares my fangirl approach to life. I help content creators build their dream blogs by being unapologetically themselves through The Content Chest membership. Aside from that, I offer blog audits, blog advertising, and online courses. I also published my debut young adult novel called The Hush Society Presents which is a coming-of-age story about a musician who dares to pursue his dreams despite the challenges that come his way. 

2. How long have you been blogging?

I’ve been blogging for more than a decade now. I started with a Livejournal blog but over the years have opened different blogs on different platforms and izzymatias.com is my latest one. 

 

3. What makes you want to become a blogger?

At first, it was because I wanted to document my concert experiences growing up, but later on, it was because I wanted to become a full-time writer and blogging was one of the ways to achieve that!  

 

4. What makes your blog unique compared to other blogs?

I share my fangirl approach to life while also helping other bloggers and creators build their dream blogs. I take a unique approach when sharing educational Kpop content by writing articles like KPop Marketing Strategies To Help You Be A Better Content Creator but also like to mix it up with blogging guides, KDrama reviews, and travel guides! 

 

5. Does your blog have a corporate color, logo, mascot, or banner? If yes, please describe?

My blog’s color theme is emerald and gold because I wanted it to look fun, and youthful but also elegant.

6. How often do you publish a new post? And how do you keep yourself motivated?

I publish a blog post once a week and the extended version of a blog post, meaning it has added information and extra content, is inside The Content Chest membership. That way it’s more strategic and I don’t burn out easily. I keep myself motivated constantly by trying new things, watching KDramas, and learning more about KPop! 

 

7. Do you have any strategy to boost your blog traffic? Please share some tips.

One of my favorite strategies when it comes to blog traffic is to do keyword research. This means finding keywords that are not that hard to rank for but are still related to your blog post and have decent search volume. For example, when I wanted to write about a romance KDrama listicle, I found that the keyword “romantic comedy KDramas” was a good keyword and optimized my post for that, and not long after I found that my post was ranking on the first page of Google in my country. What’s helped me is using a keyword research tool to find a keyword that’s not that hard to rank. In one of the tools I use, it will give you a score and if that score is green or blue that means it’s not that hard to rank for yet. Sometimes I write my post with the keyword already in mind, but other times I revise my draft to include the keyword—but of course, ensure that the post still reads naturally. This means not just stuff the keyword too many times in the post. I also keep in mind that the blog post link, post description, and title will include the keyword. 

 

 

8. What are your top 3 most successful posts? What makes you think these top 3 posts are appealing?

There are a few reasons why they’re my top posts of all time. It’s a combination of story-telling, applying SEO techniques like doing proper keyword research, and using Pinterest to promote my posts. 

 

9. Besides writing on your blog, do also write and contribute articles to other blogs and websites? 

Before the pandemic, I would contribute to online music sites like Philippine Concerts and Bandwagon Philippines since I used to go to concerts, write about them, and take photos. 

 

10. Where do you wish your blog to be in 5 years?

I want my blog to be thriving and helping over 1,000 community members inside The Content Chest. Aside from that, I want my blog to attract more travel press trips as I was just starting to get invited to press trips right before the pandemic hit. I’d love to also get 100,000 monthly page views in 5 years! Lots of big goals but I’m excited thinking about these goals.
