NOVEL REVIEW: DEVIL IN SPRING BY LISA KLEYPAS

Eiyo Fadneiras,

I'm back from my vacation! How are you guys doing? Did you guys miss me? Hehehe ^_^  I'm grateful I had a great holiday with my family in England for two weeks. And I also had a good break as well. Insya-Allah, I will share about my vacation in my future post. In today's post, I will share my review of a novel I read during my break. The novel is titled Devil In Spring. This novel belongs to the historical romance and josei genre. And it is written by my favorite author, Lisa Kleypas. Now let's begin this review with Lisa Kleypas' bio...

ABOUT LISA KLEYPAS

Lisa Kleypas is a RITA (Romance Writer Of America) award-winning author of both historical romance and contemporary women's fiction. Her novels are published in 14 different languages and are bestsellers all over the world. Kleypas is an alumnus of Wellesley College. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. ABOUT DEVIL IN SPRING

Devil In Spring (DIS) is the third book in Lisa Kleypas' The Ravenel series. The story follows an eccentric wallflower beauty named Lady Pandora Ravenel. Lady Pandora is the third child in the Ravenel family. She's the younger sister of Lady Helen and the twin sister of Lady Cassandra Ravenel.

DIS begins with the London season. Lady Pandora and her twin, Cassandra are having their first London season. Most debutantes dream of finding a husband during the season. But Lady Pandora has different ambitions. The creative genius beauty dreams to become a board game designer. Pandora rather stays at home and plots her business instead of participating in the London season.

One night at a glittering ball, Pandora's friend, Dolly asks for her assistance. Dolly lost her precious earring after having a rendezvous with her lover. Pandora agrees to help Dolly.  While Pandora is on her quest to find Dolly's missing earring, she meets a wickedly handsome rake named Gabriel, Lord St. Vincent in the Summer House. Gabriel is the son of Sebastian and Evangeline, the Duke and Duchess of Kingston (the main leads in Devil In Winter).

In the Summer House, Pandora and Gabriel got caught accidentally. They were innocently accused of having a scandal.  Gabriel eventually agrees to marry Pandora right after they were caught. But Pandora wants nothing to do with Gabriel. However, Gabriel finds Pandora irresistible. The eccentric wallflower is different from all the girls he met before. Gabriel vows to do whatever it takes to get Pandora in his arms. He doesn't want anyone else to have her.

Gabriel invites the Ravenels for a vacation at his family's estate in Sussex. After succumbing to Gabriel's skilled and sensuous persuasion, Pandora agrees to marry him. The newlyweds live happily together. Gabriel is not the man that Pandora thought he was. Gabriel did not try to change Pandora. He also did not stop her from achieving her dreams. In fact, Gabriel encourages Pandora to become a board game designer like she always dreams to be.

Later in the story, Pandora discovers that her entrepreneurial endeavors have accidentally involved her in a dangerous conspiracy. Only her husband can keep her safe. But Pandora is not an easy girl. She is daring, brave, and mischievous. So how far can Gabriel protect his wife?

MY REVIEW OF DEVIL IN SPRING

DIS is a very enjoyable feel-good romance novel to read. Reading this novel makes me happy ^_^ I mostly like Lady Pandora Ravenel's character. Pandora is so ambitious, unique, artistic, creative, innovative, and imaginative. She's a go-getter indeed. Lady Pandora Ravenel is another book beauty that I can relate to myself.  Like Pandora, I have dreams & ambitions. And I'm willing to do whatever it takes to achieve them. Unique, artistic, creative, innovative, and imaginative are my top five qualities. I also like to invent words. Most of the time, I get creative-somnia and sleeping problems (my mind is oozing with so many creative ideas). I have the same opinion about marriage with Pandora. And most people think I'm a bit childish for being imaginative. But I'm all unapologetic for being imaginative :P

Besides Pandora, I also like Gabriel's character. Gabriel is charming, charismatic, strong, and confident. He has the qualities of an alpha male hero. But the no.1 thing that makes me have a crush on Gabriel is that he doesn't try or have intentions to change Pandora. He loves her for who she is. I like the scene where Gabriel tells Pandora that being imaginative does not make her less adult than anyone else. In fact, it makes her more interesting than anyone. Oh... I hope I will find a guy like Gabriel one day ^_^ I also like that Gabriel supports and encourages Pandora to go for her dreams. This is the kind of guy most girls dream of for a husband. Am I right, ladies? Hehehe...

Taa-daa!!! My fan art of Gabriel & Pandora ^_^ (Image: My Artstagram @fmooneira_art)

In DIS, Kleypas also features some of her existing characters from the Wallflower series. Sebastian and Evangeline make a lot of appearances in this story. The two main leads from Devil In Winter are the parents of the male lead in this story. It is also nice to read about them once again. Besides Sebastian and Evangeline, Lord Westcliff (the male lead in It Happened One Autumn) also makes a cameo at the beginning of the story. Having existing characters make DIS an enjoyable and lively novel to read. Featuring existing characters totally makes DIS alive!

Overall, I rate this novel 10/10. I really enjoy this novel a lot and might reread it again in the future. I also highly recommend my fellow bookworms to read Devil In Spring. Especially those who are into the historical romance genre. Trust me, guys, Devil In Spring is a very enjoyable novel to read. You won't regret it. However, I do need to be honest that this story has some steamy romantic scenes and adult conversations that are not suitable for those who are under 18.

Ok, so this is my review of Devil In Spring by Lisa Kleypas. Has anyone read Devil In Spring? If yes, what are your opinions of Gabriel, Lord St. Vincent? Did you guys think he is as charming as his father, Sebastian, the Duke of Kingston? Please share your opinions in the comment box below.

Ok, this is all for now. I'll see you guys in my next post. Take care and thank you for reading ^_^
