NOVEL REVIEW: KING HAIDAR BY ANJELL (PLUS FAN CAST)

Fadima Mooneira is back with another novel review.  Today, I'm going to share my review of Rose's. The novel, Rose's belongs to the new adult romance genre. This novel is written in Bahasa Malaysia by one of my all-time favorite authors, Anjell. Now let's begin this review with Anjell's bio...

Anjell is Malaysia's bestselling new adult romance novelist. Rose's is Anjell's ninth and first self-published novel. Other than Rose's, some of Anjell's novels are  Eksperimen Cinta, Suamiku Paling Sweet, Tundukan Playboy Itu, Hero Seorang Cinderella, Dr. Alpha Male, Dheo's, Dia Tetap Sempurna, and King Haidar. Rose's is the prequel of Anjell's no.1 bestselling novel, Dheo's. Rose's is also the beginning of Nurissa Rose and Dheo Han's love story. The story began in Nottingham, England. Rose and Dheo were students at the University of Nottingham. 

Innocent beauty, Nurissa Rose met notorious hunk, Dheo Han while she was on her way to class. Rose was not impressed by Dheo Han during their first meeting. To Rose, Dheo was just another flirtatious and arrogant handsome face dude. But to Dheo, Rose was more than just a pretty face. And he secretly liked her. Umm...

Rose and Dheo met again in Sicily, Italy.  Sicily was Dheo's hometown. Rose and her galpals were enjoying their vacation in Italy. But the vacation turned into a disaster when Rose went missing and got herself into trouble. It was Dheo and his handsome sidekick, Lucca who saved her.

Back in Nottingham, Dheo registered himself and became a student in an art class that Rose was also in. While studying art together, Rose and Dheo started to become friends. They even worked on an art project and traveled to Paris together.

When the semester ended, the art class ended too. Rose realized that she also had feelings for Dheo Han. Just before Rose returned to Malaysia for summer vacation, she got kidnapped. But luckily, she was saved by Dheo Han again. And at the same time, the truth about Dheo Han was unveiled.

Dheo Han's other name was Dheo D'Ambrusio. The D'Ambrusios were an extremely rich and influential family in Italy. The D'Ambrusios were also an influential mafia clan. Yep, Dheo was a mafia prince. The truth about Dheo shocked Rose. It also made Rose believe that she and Dheo weren't meant to be together. They were totally different. So Rose decided to break-up with Dheo. And they got separated for a while. The break-up was hard for Rose.

Months passed by. Nurissa Rose finally accepted that Dheo Han was out of her life. But surprisingly, Dheo returned to her life as Muhammad Fateh Abdullah. Yep, Dheo returned as a new man. And he had reverted to Islam.

Rose and Dheo realized that their feelings for each other were still strong. So they decided to get married. And the two lovebirds did get married in the middle of the story. They had a happy married life in London. But unfortunately, old sins have long shadows...

The conflict began again after Dheo and Rose returned to Malaysia to build a new life. Rose was kidnapped by D'Ambrusio's no.1 enemy, the Russos. The Russos were angry at Dheo and Rose. They believed Rose and Dheo did something bad to their princess, Jessica Russo. Just before Dheo and Rose returned to Malaysia, Jessica went missing.

Jessica Russo was Dheo Han's fiancee. The D'Ambrusios and Russos once planned to make peace and expand their influence. So they planned to unite Dheo and Jessica. But unfortunately, things did not go as planned. 

However, Dheo managed to save his wife from the Russos. While they were running from the Russos, Dheo's car got hit. And they ended up in a tragic accident. Dheo had a minor injury. But Rose ended up in a coma. The doctor does not know when will Rose wake up. Dheo was sad. He realized that it was not easy for him to escape his past. Dheo must do something.

Dheo returned to the D'Ambrusio clan. Dheo faked his medical record and told his grandfather, Giovanni D'Ambrusio (the leader of the clan) that he got amnesia from the accident. He can't remember a thing including the woman that he loves. He even faked Rose's death just to protect her from his enemies.

Dheo Han had to make a very tough decision to protect and save his beloved wife. The ending of Rose's is very sad. But the ending of Rose's is also the beginning of Dheo's. If you guys are curious about Dheo Han and Nurissa Rose's love story, you need to read Rose's and Dheo's by Anjell.

MY REVIEW OF ROSE'S

Just like Dheo's, Rose's is also a very beautiful romantic read even though the vibes are dark and melancholy. The story carries two romance tropes ~ bad-boy-innocent-girl-romance, and forbidden love. 

Everything in this novel is just so romantic and beautiful. The plot, storyline, and characters are all beautifully written and created by the author. Reading Rose's gives me the same romantic feeling while I was reading Dheo's.  

Like Dheo's, Rose's is also about love, kindness, sincerity, sacrifices, and the meaning of being with someone special. Auwww!!! This novel also has a very swooning elevator pitch. "Kalau awak ros, saya durinya. In English, it means, "If you're the rose, I'm the thorns."

I like that the author uses rose and thorns as the romance element for this novel. It gives me one new thought about a rose and its thorns. Rose and thorns are one. They should not be separated even though they have different vibes. A rose is beautiful and liked by everyone. While thorns are ugly, sharp, dangerous, and hated by most people. But the thorns protect the rose. Without thorns, a rose will be vulnerable.

Besides Rose and Dheo's relationship, I also like the way Anjell portrays Nurissa Rose's relationship with her father, Mr. Nuriman. They have a healthy father-and-daughter relationship. But it is also touching that Mr. Nuriman's character only lasts 2/3 chapters in Dheo's. Yep, Rose's father died in the early chapters of Dheo's :'(

Overall, I rate this novel 10/10. I love it a lot. Reading Rose's makes me fall in love with Dheo Han again. Yep, he is now one of my all-time favorite book heartthrobs. And I highly recommend Rose's to fellow bookworms who are into the new adult romance genre. Trust me, guys, Rose's is a novel you must not miss, especially if you're a fan of Anjell and have already read Dheo's.

Before I end this review, I also need to be honest that there are some mild-spicy scenes and adult conversations in this story. So I believe this novel is not suitable for those who are under 15.
