Yep, I will geek about The Hathaways series by Lisa Kleypas. Yay!!! The Hathaways is one of my favorite book series. So I want to share my love for this series here with you guys. Now let's begin this post with Lisa Kleypas' bio.
PS: I have one special announcement to share at the end of this post. So please read this post till the end ya ^_^
ABOUT LISA KLEYPAS
Lisa Kleypas is a New York Times bestselling author. She's also a RITA (Romance Writer Of America) award-winning author of both historical romance and contemporary women's fiction. Most of Kleypas' novels have been published in 14 different languages. Kleypas is an alumnus of Wellesley College. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. She became Miss Massachusetts in 1985. Kleypas lives in Washington with her husband, Gregory, and two children.
ABOUT THE HATHAWAYS
The Hathaways is the second book series by Lisa Kleypas after The Wallflowers. The series consists of five books - Mine Till Midnight (2007), Seduce Me At Sunrise (2008), Tempt Me St Twilight (2009), Married By Morning (2010), and Love In The Afternoon (2010). All five books were published by St. Martin's Press.
The story is set in the Victorian era and follows five Hathaway siblings - Leo, Amelia, Winnifred, Poppy, and Beatrix with their love interests. The Hathaways is more than just romance. This series is also about family, siblings, and kindness. LK also promotes diversity in The Hathaways. This makes all five books enjoyable to read.
Leo, Amelia, Winnifred, Poppy, and Beatrix are make-believe characters. They all are ordinary people. They have their strengths. They have their flaws. The five Hathaway siblings are kind loving people. They love, support, and take care of each other after their parents pass away. They also help each other and their loved ones to become a better version of themselves.
The Hathaways is a good series to binge-read, especially if you're into romantic stories with good values and swoon-worthy alpha male heroes. Hehehe ^_^ Plus, all five books in the series are also mind-blowing. Reading them gives me a new perception about love and being with a special someone. All five books in this series are eye-openers indeed.
If you guys want to know more about The Hathaways, you can check out my reviews on each Hathaway book at the end of this post. Now let's move on to some geeking questions. I'm going to ask myself seven questions about The Hathaways. You guys can also participate by sharing your answers in the comment box below.
#1 WHEN DID YOU FIRST START READING THE HATHAWAYS BY LISA KLEYPAS?
I started reading The Hathaways in 2021. Malaysia was having a huge lockdown due to the pandemic at that time. I bought two Hathaway books from SM Books & Collectibles - Seduce Me At Sunrise and Tempt Me At Twilight. Seduce Me At Sunrise was the first Hathaway book that I read. At that time, I did not know that Seduce Me At Sunrise belonged in a series. When I was about to write a review of the book, I did some research and found out that Seduce Me At Sunrise belongs to The Hathaways series. Since I enjoyed that book a lot, I decided to collect and read all five books of the series. This is also how I became a member of Lisa Kleypas's fandom.
#2 RANK ALL FIVE HATHAWAY BOOKS FROM MOST FAVORITE TO LEAST FAVORITE?
1) Tempt Me At Twilight (Poppy Hathaway and Harry Rutledge's story)
2) Love In The Afternoon (Beatrix Hathaway and Christopher Phelan's story)
3) Mine Till Midnight (Amelia Hathaway and Cam Rohan's story)
4) Married By Morning (Leo Hathaway and Catherina Marks' story)
5) Seduce Me At Sunrise (Winnifred Hathaway and Kev Merripen's story)
#3 WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SCENE IN THE WHOLE HATHAWAY STORY?
My favorite scene in the whole Hathaway story is in chapter 25 of Tempt Me At Twilight page 338. Before the scene, Poppy had an argument with her husband, Harry Rutledge. On her way home, Poppy suddenly remembered her late mother's marriage advice: if you want your marriage to work, never remember your partner's mistakes. But always remember your own.
That advice got me thinking that I must not be ego if I want to be with someone special. This advice also motivates me to become a better version of myself. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. Love is sincere. But love is not perfect. The terms trophy wife and trophy husband do not exist in love or even marriage.
Mrs. Hathaway's advice makes me strongly believe that love is an adventure two people share together till Jannah. This is how I chose 'Love is an adventure' as the tagline for all my romantic fiction.
#4 WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE MALE LEAD IN THE SERIES? AND WHY?
Oh wow... this is quite hard to choose. All of them are swoon-worthy. But I have to go with Harry Rutledge. One of the reasons why Harry is my favorite is because this character has three interesting roles in the story. Harry is the male lead in Tempt Me At Twilight. He is the love interest of the female lead, Poppy Hathaway. Plus, he is also the antagonist to Poppy. Do you guys want to why Harry is also an antagonist to Poppy? You need to read my review of the book. The link to my review of Tempt Me At Twilight is at the end of this post ya ^_^
Besides his three interesting roles, Harry is also portrayed as a morally grey hero with Hades vibes. FYI, this character is modeled after Hades. And Tempt Me At Twilight is also based on Hades And Persephone's love story. Even though Harry is an enigmatic bad boy, he is also a sentimental guy at heart. Deep down he is kind, loving, romantic, and caring. I like the way he loves Poppy. He loves her with all his heart. He loves everything about her. And oh yeah, Harry is also charismatic, suave, courageous, brave, intelligent, intellectual, and devilishly good-looking. He is tall, all masculine, and has dreamy emerald green eyes. Btw, Harry Rutledge is also listed in my top 10 all-time fictional crushes. Hehehe ^_^
#5 IS YOUR FAVORITE MALE LEAD CLOSE TO YOUR IDEAL TYPE?
Hahaha... to be honest, I'm that into morally grey guys even though some of my fictional crushes belong in this group. I do believe morally grey characters are alluring. But reality might not be the same as fantasy. Hehehe...
My ideal type is someone who is kind-hearted, intellectual, and courageous. And Harry has all three. So yes, he is close to my ideal type. I mean 95% close. Ngehehe ^_^
#6 WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE FEMALE LEAD IN THE SERIES? AND WHY?
That has to be Poppy. She's the female lead in Tempt Me At Twilight and the fourth child in the Hathaway family. Poppy is not just a pretty face character. She is also sweet and innocent yet sassy. Poppy is the kind of girl who knows what she wants, and she is always honest with her feelings. Even though Poppy has an ego, she is also a flexible person. She knows why and when to change her perceptions about something and someone. Poppy is also kind-hearted and a very forgiving person. I believe Poppy is one of the best characters created by Lisa Kleypas. This book beauty is a good role model to young girls indeed.
#7 WHICH CHARACTER IN THE SERIES YOU CAN STRONGLY RELATE TO?
Same answer ^_^ Like Poppy, I don't like small talk and am not into cheap gossip. I love books. I enjoy geeking about simple intellectual stuff when I flirt. Hehehe... I know most guys see me as a boring girl to date. And like Poppy, dating has always been hard for me.
I have also been told by some friends that I'm kind-hearted, forgiving, possess positive energy, innocent yet sassy. These points make me able to relate myself to Poppy Hathaway. And I like that ^_^
Alright, so these are the geeking questions I have. You guys can answer them as well. And you guys can share your answers in the comment box below. Before I end this post, I want to ask my readers two related questions...
1) Which book series by Lisa Kleypas is your favorite? And why?
2) What is your favorite book series? And why?
Feel free to share your answers in the comment box below. Let's geek about our favorite things. Yay!!!

ReplyDeleteHope you'll enjoy it.
DeleteI have not read anything by this author, but I like a good series to get stuck into (plus I like the historical setting), and I could see myself really enjoying these!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will ^_^
DeleteI love how you described the female character. Poppy's character is relatable because of her sassiness and kindness. This book and series would be perfect for people who have read Jane Austen's or Julian Quinn's books.
ReplyDeleteI second everything you said. If you're a fan of Jane Austen and Julia Quinn, you'll surely love Lisa Kleypas too.
