ABOUT THE NIGHT TIGER

The Night Tiger is a historical-thriller fiction. The story has a lot of mysteries in it. It is set in Malaysia during the British colonial. The story follows two protagonists, Ren and Ji Lin.

Ren is an 11-year-old houseboy who works for a British aristocrat. Ren has a secret mission in hand. The young boy has to look for his dead master's severed finger. He then has to reunite the finger with his master's body. Ren has 49 days to complete his mission, or else his master's soul will roam the earth forever.

Ji Lin is a young Chinese-Malaysian girl. During the daytime, she's an apprentice dressmaker. But during nighttime, she is a nightclub dancer and entertainer. Ji Lin is forced to work at the nightclub to pay her mother's debts. One night, Ji Lin's dance partner leaves her with a gruesome souvenir that leads her on a dark trail.

As time runs out for Ren's mission, a series of unexplained deaths occur. Most people believe the murderer is a weretiger. Oh dear... could this be true? What does the weretiger want? Is the weretiger revengeful?

MY REVIEW OF THE NIGHT TIGER

This novel has a lot of mysteries in it. It makes you curious if there's really a weretiger in the story. And what does the weretiger want? Is it revengeful? Huhuhu...

I like that the story is set in Malaysia during the colonial days. It makes the story enchanting to visualize. Plus, I can also study the history of my own country by reading The Night Tiger. As a fan of historical fiction, I always find stories that are set in the old days beautiful to read.

The Night Tiger has a very interesting plot and storyline. I like the concept of the story. But unfortunately, the story has a very slow pace. The slow pacing makes the story less enjoyable and intriguing for me. Oh, how I wish this story moved at a fast pace. I always like stories with loads of mysteries to be fast. However, I still find it an interesting read.

Overall, I rate this novel 7/10. Although The Night Tiger is not one of my best reads of 2024, I still like to recommend it to my fellow bookworms. Different people have different tastes and opinions. It may not be my cup of tea, but it might be yours. Who knows. So please give it a try. Don't be too influenced by what I said ^_^

  5. Love the sound of this book! I like a good historic murder plot and it being a bit of a slow-pacer makes this sound like the perfect option for slow Autumn evenings that are threateningly getting closer. Thank you for sharing your honest review!

  7. The premise of The Night Tiger sounds really interesting, but that's a shame the story is so slow. For thrillers, I do expect a faster pacing.

    1. Yeah, it makes the story not thrilling. Just like a romance story is sucks if it's not swoon-worthy.
